Satyapriya Roy College of Education - Kolkata was established in 1967 with an aim of Satyapriya Roy College of Education - Kolkata to cater to the needs of teacher education in west Bengal All Bengal Teachers' Association (A.B.T.A.) the premier Secondary Teachers' organization of west Bengal took its academic responsibility for establishment of Teachers' training college.
Satyapriya Roy founder of Satyapriya Roy College of Education - Kolkata was born on 1st March 1907 in a well-to do family at Singaie in the district of Mymensing, now in Bangladesh. He graduated from Anandamohan College of Mymensing town in the year 1927 with First Class honors in English. Satyapirya Roy completed his M.A in English standing First from Dhaka University in 1929. He stood first class first in B.T Examination in the year 1936 as well as in the spoken English assessment. He passed the Police Service Commission Examination with equal credit but did not join there.
With an aim to serve the nation, he took up teacher ship in Mrityunjoy H.E. School Mymensing now in Bangladesh, Jafargunj Islam H.E. School and Kanungopara H.E. School during 1929-1936. Satyapriya Roy founder of Satyapriya Roy College of Education - Kolkata took the responsibility of Kalidhen Institution at calcutta s the Headmaster. In pre-thirties to a young man with such brilliant career he could have opted for service in the Government or Non Government department with high salary but he took the pledge to teach in school to serve the nation. Down to earth man is sure to wonder. But visions differ in time and space; an intensity of dreams. Satyapriya Roy chose teaching as a mission, not simply profession.
