Saint Mary’s College is an institution steeped in history and tradition but with an eye to the future. The objectives of the college are guided by the motto and the coat of arms. The NSS movement in Saint Mary’s College started in 1974 – 75.The National Service Scheme with its motto “Not Me But You” underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependant on the welfare of the society as a whole. The main objective of the NSS is to develop the personality of the volunteers through community service. It aims at inculcating amongst the volunteers a spirit of team- work, service to the community they live in, character building which ultimately leads to the development of their personality. The NSS unit of the Saint Mary’s College regularly conducts a number of activities which such as Cleaning Drives, AIDS awareness programmes, Blood donation, observing important days such as World Environment Day and so on. The college unit comprises of the teachers as the Programme Officers and the students as the registered volunteers.

With its motto of “Unity and Discipline” the National Cadet Corps aims to create organized, trained and motivated youths by developing qualities of leadership, team spirit, secular outlook, ideas of selfless service and spirit of adventure. The activities of the NCC can be broadly divided into Saint Mary’s College Training, Community Development Programme cum Social Service Activities, Youth Exchange Programme and Adventure Training and Sports. NCC “C” certificate cadets receive benefits in the form of reserved vacancies for commission in the Defence Forces, i.e., in the Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. Scholarships are also available for deserving NCC cadets who have excelled in academics. The Saint Mary’s College unit provides opportunity for the students to be a part of this unique organization and the cadets of the college unit actively take part in the Independence and Republic Day Parade. The college has a senior wing unit of 61 Meghalaya Girl’s NCC Battalion. One Assistant NCC Officer (ANO) of the rank of Lieutenant is in charge of this unit.

Another vital aspect for a complete college life is the availability of a well managed canteen in the campus. Saint Mary’s College has two canteens and a Nescafe Coffee Corner that are run by private vendors on contract basis. Students and staff of the college have access to canteen facilities before, during break time or after class hours. These canteens serve a variety of food, snacks, tea and cold drinks at reasonable prices. Besides being a location for refreshments, the students consider the canteens as a favorite hangout, a forum where ideas grow and are exchanged, and a place for light banter, gossips, discussions, socializing, relaxation and completion of work.

The reprography service is available for the teachers and students of the Saint Mary’s College at nominal rates. Xerox machines are installed in the Library, Student Service Centre and in the college office. Library Awareness and Development Cell look after the overall quality improvement of the Library. Library ensure access, use and security of materials through systems of displaying, issuance, maintenance of entrance register, keeping check on activities within in library. Support facilities available in the library are computers with Wi Fi Internet connection and reprography facilities. The stock of the library is regularly enhanced and current titles are procured systematically every year. Library services are computerized through the use of library software called KOHA. The College at present is using DELNET facilities for inter-library borrowing.
