Established In: Sullivan Business College was founded in 1962. The college then expanded to additional campuses. Ft. Knox campus opened in 1982 and Lexington in 1985. In 1987, the National Center for Hospitality Studies started, offering degrees in culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, hotel and restaurant management and catering. Sullivan College of Technology and Design and Spencerian College also became part of the Sullivan University System. The baccalaureate degree program was added in 1990 and MBA in 1997.

In 1972, the school additionally began to offer associate degrees. In 1976, the institution was renamed to Sullivan Junior College of Business. The institution name was changed to its present designation, Sullivan University, in 2000.
