I was just in Starbucks at Robson/Denman in Vancouver. I was refused service. There were two young women working behind the counter. They made it clear that this was a joint decision. They did not give me a reason. I was totally shocked by this as I have scarcely said anything to them beyond asking for tea or coffee. I have been visiting this Starbucks regularly for the last four years without the slightest problem. For your information I am 70 years old. I have been to hundreds of cafes in many countries over the last 60 years. I have never once been refused service anywhere in all those years. I am a university professor. Being polite and respectful to people is not only my nature, but is also my professional responsibility. If you do a Google search on me you will find many references to my published books, my many scientific papers, and to my university affiliation.

First, I'd like to give kudos to your employees. I/we visit many different store locations and have found everyone there to be pleasant, and professional. And also when I was calling managers about the possibility of setting up a time that is convenient with the manager to discuss the possibility of hiring a person with a mental health challenge, (self disclosed). All I needed was five minutes of their time to discuss our research project face to face, and everyone was kind enough to agree, save one. The only complaint I have is that when I called the 2035 Yukon St. Store, whomever answered the telephone was extremely rude, and hung up on me. This is highy unusual. To whom it may concern, I recently experienced a very unprofessional customer service at one of your establishments (Guildford Town Centre, second floor). On Thursday, October 22nd I visited this location to order a drink with a service card that I found from a long time ago. Not only did the assistant manager refuse my service, she accused me of having a fake service card. This is certainly not the type of service I expect from a place like Starbucks. I too work in customer service and my job is to make sure every single customer leaves happy. I cannot believe how disrespectful and unprofessional the assistant manager was to me. Rather than insulting me, the situation could have been handled more appropriately. I never want to return my business to this location if this is how the employees treat their customers. I am from Vancouver. I was at my favorite Starbucks in Kerrisdale. I went to the washroom. No toilet paper in any of the stalls the toilets were filthy, paper towels and toilet paper all over the floor, hand towels out as well. I informed one of the employees. It took her about 25 minutes to get to the bathrooms. Then she brought three full bags of paper towel and other things right through the shop. Not sure if it is proper procedure, but it did not look good. Thought you should know.
