St Alberts College – Kochi began functioning on 16th of July, 1946, in the old St. Albert’s High School building, situated in front of the present college campus with 150 students in the first year intermediate class. Years have gone by. Long strides have been taken by the college in its development. Today under the patronage of His Grace Dr. Daniel Acharuparambil, St. Albert’s College is a front runner First Grade College functioning under the Mahatma Gandhi University.
The mission of St Alberts College – Kochi is to taking inspiration from the Eternal Teacher, Jesus Christ we strive towards equipping young people to meet the challenges of these modern times by providing an all round formation. We are well aware that we exist for our students and do our very best to provide a most friendly and growth oriented ambience for them. We do everything in our capacity to ensure excellent standards that would secure them leadership in tomorrow's challenging world.
The vision of the St Alberts College – Kochi is to mould world-class citizens with the highest intellectual acumen, emotional balance, spiritual strength and physical training, guided by the principles of Dharma. The college library is located in the main building and has floor area of approx 2800sq ft spread over two floors. There is a spacious central reading hall and specialized subject areas. Our library has a large collection of 42,000 titles on various subjects. It is fully computerised and has Internet facility. It subscribes to leading National as well as International journals and periodicals. CD Rom facility is available in the library.
St Alberts College – Kochi has 16 well-equipped laboratories with the latest instruments and equipments. Special mention may be made of the tissue culture laboratory, the instrumentation lab, medical microbiology lab, the wet laboratory with recirculation facilities for undertaking live rearing experiments on freshwater and seawater aquatic organisms, Animal House, anatomy labs, two museums and a botanical garden.
St Alberts College – Kochi laboratories are fully equipped with instruments such as microprocessors, spectrophotometers, microtomes, flame photometers, cooling centrifuges, electrophoretic apparatus, laminar flow chambers, BOD incubators, deep freezers, micrographic CCTV set up with monitor and a range of new generation microscopes. The computer centre of the college has a wide range of very advanced and highly sophisticated computers and also a hardware lab.
St Alberts College – Kochi has just opened a new bioscience laboratory complex, attached to the Department of Aquaculture, Fisheries and Biochemistry. The complex consists of four state of the art testing laboratories for Seafood processing and Quality Control, Aquaculture Nutrition, Fish Pathology and Health Management Laboratory & Aquaculture Laboratory. Plans are underway to get these laboratories accredited to various Inspection and Quality Control Agencies.
St Alberts College – Kochi has a 3 acre demonstration farm at Pizhala along the world famous Cochin backwaters. Field training for students of Aquaculture and Industrial Fisheries in marine and brackish water fish (Mullets, Milkfish, Seabass, Pearlspot) and shrimp (Tiger shrimp and Indian White Shrimp) culture are given here. St. Albert’s College is one of the handfuls of institutions in the whole of the country and the only college in Kerala State, which has an aquaculture demonstration farm owned by the management. The farm is used for imparting practical training to the students.
St Alberts College – Kochi gives equal importance to the physical and mental development of the students. Keeping the aim of a “healthy mind in a healthy body” in view, facilities have been provided for the practicing of games and sports. The college playground covering an area of 4.6 acres is very close to the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium and is in close proximity to the college. The sports facilities comprise of a world-class tennis court, and separate play areas for football, cricket and hockey. Facilities exist for practicing track and field events also.
In addition, a newly built basketball court of international standards is located in the St Alberts College – Kochi campus. Additional facilities like an indoor badminton court are also available for students. The college endeavors to find job opportunities for those who successfully complete their courses. The Career and Placement cell provides information about Job opportunities that arise in various fields and campus interviews are arranged on a regular basis.
