Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan – Kolkata a partly residential degree college for women was the first educational institution started by the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission. It came into existance in 1961 as a humble effort to carry out Swami Vivekananda's ideals of education among women.
Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan – Kolkata is located at 33 Nayapatty Road, Kolkata-55, West Bengal. College today stands among the premier women's institutions of the state. The college provides a peaceful academic environment, ideal for pursuit of studies. Here the students are placed under the direct supervision and care of the dedicated monastic members of Sri Sarada Math and Mission, and fulltime employed teachers. The college works toward creating an ideal society based on the principles of equality, freedom, justice, tolerance and respect for religious diversity and moral values, emphasized in the Constitution of India. Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan – Kolkata offers different kind of undergraduate and career oriented certificate courses.
Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan – Kolkata Library was begun from 1961, when the college was set up. The Library started catering to the needs of the students, faculty and non-teaching staff with the commitment to provide information leading towards excellence in humanities and the social sciences. So the basic function is to assist the college to carry out its mission of self-development of personality through education. In the beginning, the library was located in the college building beside the teachers' common room. Then in 1975, the library was shifted to a new building with an additional reading room on the ground floor. Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan – Kolkata Library is user friendly to ensure maximization of library utilization.In 2010, alcoves were built for teachers to facilitate their work. In the same year, a Free Open Source Software KOHA was introduced for the library. At present KOHA is being used for acquisition, cataloguing and circulation, with primary stress on acquisition. It will go online once the cataloguing is completed.
Limited internet facilities are available for students in the cyber room. Faculty and office have access to the internet through the staff room, the library and the office. The internet based resources are extensively used as teaching aids. Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan – Kolkata is in the process of developing a UGC-Network Resource Centre. There is a separate reprographic centre available for the faculty, students and non-teaching staff. First aid, limited medical diagnosis and medication are available on the campus.
Faculty members are available to students for academic and personal counselling. Since 2009, Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan – Kolkata has been organising periodic counselling for students (individually and collectively) in collaboration with the Centre for Counselling Services and Studies in Self-Development, Jadavpur University.
Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan – Kolkata is a partly residential college, and the Hostel forms an integral part in its scheme of imparting an all round education.Run on the system of the ancient “Gurukul”, it pays special attention to the cultivation of those aspects of the student’s personality, which are otherwise neglected in a conventional educational system.

The teaching staff is fully integrated into the students' cultural and other extra-curricular work through several committees set up for this purpose. Cultural competitions are an eagerly awaited annual affair, spread over 4-5 days, offering students an opportunity to nurture and cultivate their talents and interests in such diverse fields as music, painting, recitation, creative writing, debating, and oratory. Annual Sports are held in the college grounds every year in winter.
