Pattamundai College - Kendrapara got Government concurrence on 5th June, 1970. Thus the College functioned from the academic year 1970-71. Then there is no respite. The development of the College has been phenomenal as revealed in the following facts. The College started functioning with 128 students on its rolls and there were just five lecturers. Today, in the 40th year of its existence, there are nearly 1800 students, 52 lecturers and 29 non-teaching members of the staff. The college extends over the area of fifteen acres of land with impressive Infrastructure.
Pattamundai College - Kendrapara is situated at Pattamundai, Kendrapara, Orissa. Opened in 1970, the Government concurrence and University affiliation at B.A. stage in the year 1973, I. Com in 1978, B.A. (Hons) in Hist. in 1978, Honours in Pol.Sc. and Economics in 1979, Honours in English, Odia, Sociology, Philosophy, Education and B. Com in 1989. Higher Secondary classes in Arts, Science and Commerce were opened in the session 1983-84. A Statue of one of the greatest Architects of Modern Orissa Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das was installed in front of the College on 12.2.79 by Dr Radhanath Rath under the auspices of the College Union.
Pattamundai College - Kendrapara has been receiving grants from U.G.C. on different heads since the 6th to 11th plan periods. The college got Govt concurrence and University affiliation at B.Sc. stage in the session 1989-90. In 1990-91 affiliation was received for Philosophy and Commerce Honours with 32 seats each. The seats in Pol. Sc. and Oriya Honours were increased from 16 to 32 each in 1991-92. In 1994-95 affiliation and Govt. concurrence were received for 32 seats in Sociology Honours and 16 seats each for Mathematics and Chemistry Honours. 1997-98 was a very remarkable academic year in history of Pattamundai College - Kendrapara . During this year affiliation was obtained for Honours teaching in Education, Botany, Zoology and Physics with 16 seats each. The U.G.C. sanctioned a vocational subject 'Tourism and Travel Management' with 30 seats at the +3 Arts level.In 2007-08 vocational subject of Business & Commerce (Part II) at +2 stage was opened. During last 5 years College buildings have developed spectacularly. A 40 seated Gents hostel was built with the State Govt. grant. A Women's Hostel with accommodation for 70 students has come up with U.G.C. Assistance in 2002-2003.
Pattamundai College - Kendrapara has constructed a large jubilee building of about 5,000 sft. for the College library. A large reading room for the students is functioning from 2002-2003. From 2004-2005 academic session, a reading room for staff has been provided. Two staff quarters have been constructed in UGC funding. Second Ladies Hostel is coming up with UGC assistance during 11th plan.
The establishment of Pattamundai College - Kendrapara has not only added new dimensions to the aspirations of the people of the area but it has also facilitated the spread of education all around. The College imparts high standard of teaching to the young men and women of the area. There is galaxy of highly qualified and experienced teachers whose motto is to bring academic excellence in the College. The library of Pattamundai College - Kendrapara contains nearly 30,500 books in the general section covering all the subjects. Apart from this it has 2400 books in the Book Bank. 378 books in the reference section, leading journals and magazines to cater to the needs of students, teachers and researchers. The statue of Dr. Padmanav Tripathy and Brundaban Tripathy were installed in 2002 to perpetuate their memory and their contribution to the College.
The University Grants Commission has provided basic assistance and development grants to Pattamundai College - Kendrapara which have helped its development in different directions. The College provides accommodation to 3 teachers in its staff quarters and teachers barracks. Its water supply system extends over its entire campus. The College has a guest house, a co-operative store, a playground, post office, a canteen, an NCC training centre, a beautiful garden in its campus. At present Prof. K C Patra, the Principal of the College acts as the Secretary and Sub Collector,Kendrapara is the President of the Governing Body.
Keeping in view the world wide concern for global pollution and afforestation as the only remedial measures, Pattamundai College - Kendrapara has taken up afforestation programme in the campus in the year 1992-93 with active co-operation of the Soil Conservation Department. Small quantities of saplings are planted every year. This year nearly 200 trees including 100 Australian teak have been planted.Nearly 4000 trees with beautiful panorama of green foliage the campus bristles with life, with expectations of a bright furture. The NAAC peer team of U.G.C. visited this college on 7.12.2005 and the College was accredited with a glorious B+ Certificate in the Session 2005-2006.
There is accommodation for 40 male students in the Boys' Hostel and for 75 students in the Women's Hostel. The NSS, introduced in Pattamundai College - Kendrapara in 1973 has 2 units, one for boys and one for girls. A new unit is opened in 2010 for boys of +2 streams. The objectives of NSS include in promotion of social responsibility, to work with and among the people, welcome to non-violent and constructive social activities and attempt to find solution to social problems among students. There shall be one annual camp for each unit. It shall be organised by NSS volunteers under the direct supervision of the programme officer. NCC cadets are not eligible to opt for NSS.
The N.C.C. introduced into Pattamundai College - Kendrapara during 1985-86. It has been functioning since then. The NCC unit has a capacity for 50cadets. It is under I (0) B.N.N.C.C. Cuttack. It is open to all students of the college except NSS volunteers. The Youth Red-Cross , introduced during 1976-77 at Pattamundai College aims at helping students and people in distress, improving the health of unhealthy people, accepting civil and human responsibility, maintiaing peace inside and outside the college and undertaking social work. The Y.R.C. consists of student volunteers and a member of the teaching staff who shall function as its Counsellor. The students willing to join are advised to apply for the purpose to the Counsellor on or before a date that is to be fixed by the later that is the Counsellor.
