Harcourt Butler Technological Institute - HBIT Kanpur has always been an example and a source of inspiration in the field of science and technology since 1921. It has retained its conspicuous presence in the technical world. The institute was earlier known as "Government Research Institute, Cawnpore" and was established in 1920. It was later renamed as "Government Technological Institute" in 1921. Finally in 1926, it got its name "Harcourt Butler Technological Institute".
Spread across two campuses,
Harcourt Butler Technological Institute - HBIT Kanpur has the east campus which is spread over 77 acres and the west campus which is spread over 271 acres and are situated about 3 km apart.
Harcourt Butler Technological Institute - HBIT Kanpur has received aid of 24.78 crore rupees from the World Bank for different developmental projects. This aid will be spent for issues like: Development of the Infrastructure, New Laboratory equipments, Maintenance and repair of old laboratory equipments, Funding for research and lectures attended by faculty in foreign universities, Aim towards community development and overall growth. In addition, the institute has facilities like: Hostels, Library, Banking and Postal Facilities, Medical Facility, General Computing Facilities, Guest House, Sports Facilities.
Harcourt Butler Technological Institute - HBIT Kanpur has several play grounds and well maintained athletic track and the Institute encourages the students to take part in different games such as Cricket, Hockey, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis and Badminton. The Institute also has the facilities like Gymnasium and Badminton Hall.
The faculty has given 350 research papers and 80 presentations in Indian as well as in International journals. Besides, 49 R&D Schemes sponsored by D.S.T, U.G.C, I.C.A.R, D.R.D.O,U.P.C.S.T, C.SI.R, D.A.E, I.C.M.R, D.O.E and Ministry of Civil supplies have been fruitfully completed.
