History of Government College of Pharmacy – Karad as a part of expansion of pharmacy education, the Govt. Of Maharashtra decided to start the Diploma and Degree courses in Polytechnic and Engineering College under the Directorate of Technical Education. In 1964 Diploma Course in Pharmacy was granted to Govt. Polytechnic, Karad. In 1965, Degree course in Pharmacy was granted to Govt. College of Engineering, Karad. The first Batch for Diploma with strength of 60 students was admitted in 1964 & first batch for Degree with strength of 30 students was admitted in 1965.

The Principals of College of Engineering & Govt. Polytechnic, Karad & their members of staff showed keen interest & took untiring efforts in developing the Pharmacy departments of Diploma & Degree courses, till 1974. During this year Government of Maharashtra announced establishment of Government College of Pharmacy – Karad as a separate entity. On 9th Aug, 1974, the members of staff of the teaching & nonteaching cadre from college of Engineering & Govt. Polytechnic, Karad, appointed to Pharmacy branches, were transferred to the Govt. College of Pharmacy, Karad & started to function as a separate college.

After lengthy litigations the piece of land measuring about 30,000 Sq. Mts. was acquired by Government College of Pharmacy – Karad in 1988. After completing other formalities, the construction of the building was started in 1992 and completed in three years. Government College of Pharmacy – Karad shifted into new premises in 1995. Hostels for boys and girls continue to be shared in the premises of Government College of Engineering and Government Polytechnic. Government College of Pharmacy – Karad offers different kind of bachelor and master courses leading to different streams. Post graduation in Bio pharmaceutics to accommodate 13 students has started from Jan. 1996 in collaboration with Shree Hospital, Karad.

Government College of Pharmacy – Karad is located in Vidya Nagar, (Saidpur), Karad, District Satara, Mumbai. Library of Government College of Pharmacy – Karad has merged more of a learning resource utilization centre. It has made such an impact on different sectors of human activity that the present period has come to be called information age. In the context of Library & information management. It has become synonymous with automation & modernization of libraries & information centre. Automation of library of Government College of Pharmacy – Karad with support of INFLLBNET, UGC, NISSAT, Email, CD-ROM, Software System, Machine readable catalogue (MARC) etc. For resource sharing among library has become essential. To ensure that more & more professionals & laymen from various sectors such as academics, industry, social organization, avail of library facility. The main in charge of the library is Mr. S. A. Koli. In library two books should be issued in a week & books should be given for three days & seven days.

Government College of Pharmacy – Karad gives Hostel facility for both boys & girls. This facility be given in the merit list for boys, it is near about 120 & for girls; it is near about be 12. Another facility of Internet Should be given for the students to receive mails of their parents or to saw some of their Pharmacy sites.

Special Features of Government College of Pharmacy – Karad runs counseling for Diabetic Patients under the title “Madhumitra Mandal”. Government College of Pharmacy – Karad has arranged Four Staff Development Programs & Four Continuing Education Programs. The college has organized 3rd Annual National Convention of Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India. (APTI) during March 1998. More than 2500 students passed out of portals of the college getting their degree. Ex-students of the college constituted Karad Pharmacy Students’ Federation (KPSF) which is a registered body. The body has been arranging get together of Ex-Students frequently.

Government College of Pharmacy – Karad celebrated Silver Jubilee in the year 1990. ISTE chapter run by the members of staff of the college & ISTE student’s chapter are also functioning in the college. The college proposes to conduct AICTE short-term courses.
