Overview: The Université de Sherbrooke i.e. French for University of Sherbrooke was founded in 1954 in Quebec, Canada as a French-speaking Catholic university. From an initial group of just three faculties - the Arts, the Sciences, and the Law - it has gradually expanded to include nine other faculties including Administration, Education, Medicine, Theology, Engineering, and Physical Education & Sports. University of Sherbrooke is the only French language university in the Estrie region of Quebec, and it offers 46 undergraduate, 48 postgraduate, and 27 doctoral programs as well as many certificates and micro programs. It is a Public University.


Campus: University of Sherbrooke has five campuses:
The Main Sherbrooke Campus: The main campus of the University of Sherbrooke is located at Mount John S. Bourque in the west of Sherbrooke. It comprises management of the institution, support services and most faculties.


The Sherbrooke Health Campus: The Health Campus of the University of Sherbrooke is located in the Fleurimont, and it includes the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Institute of Pharmacology of Sherbrooke, the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke, the Centre for Clinical Research and Development, and the Center of Biotechnology Eastern Townships.


The Longueuil Campus: The Longueuil Campus of the University of Sherbrooke, located in the Montérégie, offers all the necessary material and logistical support required to the many programs offered. It contributes to the development of social and economic environment of the region by meeting their needs and continually bringing in new innovations.


The Joint Campus in Saguenay: The University of Sherbrooke offers medical programs in Saguenay through a partnership with the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi.


The Joint Campus in Moncton: The University of Sherbrooke offers medical programs in Moncton through a partnership with the University of Moncton at Moncton, New York.


The joint campuses at Saguenay and Moncton encourage doctors in the region to remain on site even after their graduation. Nearly 50 new doctors graduate each year from Moncton and Saguenay.


Hostel: The hostels can accommodate a total of 1340 students. The Estudiantine, which is the latest residential complex, has two buildings in downtown Sherbrooke which offer 119 rooms in 34 apartments, and a third building on Galt Street West which can accommodate 36 students.


Infrastructure: University of Sherbrooke main Sherbrooke Campus includes Administration, Support services, Most faculties, The George-Cabana Pavilion (central pavilion), The Multifunctional Pavilion, The Univestrie Pavilion (sports centre), The Cultural Centre and Maurice-O'Bready Theatre, The Humanities Library, The Law and Government Publications Library, The Music Library, The Science and Engineering Library, The Documentation Centre, The Anne-Hébert Centre, The Pedagogical Resource Centre, The Jean-Marie Roy Map Library, and The student residences.


The Longueuil Campus offers more than 90 educational programs, mostly at the master's level, in eight of the nine faculties of the university (Administration; Education; Engineering; Law; Letters and Humanities; Medicine and Health Sciences; Science; Theology, Ethics and Philosophy). Whether at the undergraduate or graduate level, most programs are offered on a part-time basis on evenings and weekends, or in various other intensive formats such that they allow professionals to remain in the work force. In 1996, the Joint Campus in Saguenay opened its doors to medical students. The Joint Campus in Moncton, New Brunswick, also opened in 1996. It offers medical training to French-speaking students.


Faculties: There are nine faculties at University of Sherbrooke: Administration, Law, Education, Physical Education and Sports, Engineering, Humanities, Medicine and Health Sciences, Science, and Theology & Religious Studies. The faculties are divided into 47 undergraduate programs, 53 master programs, and 30 doctoral. In total, over 360 training programs are offered in all areas of human activity.


Accreditation: University of Sherbrooke ranked first in The Globe and Mail 2005 and 2006 studies, for its excellent reputation, quality of life on campus, technological resources offered to students, career preparation, the quality of education it provides, and student services.
