St Teresa College - Cochin a pioneering institution in the field of Higher Education in India, was established on 15th June in the year 1925, as the first Women's College of the erstwhile Cochin State and the second in the whole of Kerala by the Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of St.Teresa.St Teresa College - Cochin is situated in the heart of Kochi city in two different locations separated by a distance of roughly half a kilometre. The Arts Block is on the Park Avenue road occupying two acres and 65 cents. The Science Block on T.D road is situated in an area of one acre and 34 cents. Since the campus area is limited, the St Teresa College - Cochin has adopted a vertical mode of expansion. Each block has many buildings with adequate number of classrooms for different programmes offered by the St Teresa College - Cochin. Within this limited space, the college has constructed a multi-purpose indoor stadium in the Science Block in 2003-04 named 'Teresian Gym Plaza-75'. It doubles up as a common place for the students and faculty for holding seminars, public functions and cultural programmes. It can also be conveniently converted into a floor for indoor games.

Our thrust is in the creation of a civilization of love as envisaged and promoted by our Foundress, Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima.


The St Teresa College - Cochin is named after St.Teresa of Avila. Though a Saint of the 16th Century, St. Teresa is a model for youth in any age and time. Her teachings form the basis of Catholic Spirituality.St Teresa College - Cochin is the result of a vision, the seeds of which was planted by Sr.Teresa of St. Rose of Lima, when she started St.Teresa's School in 1887. She had come in response to the call of Rt. Rev. Dr. Leonard Mellaono the Carmelite Archbishop of Verapoly, to start the first school for girls in the state and to found a Congregation of Religious Sisters. She was a great educationalist and a humane social worker. Unfortunately she died in 1902 in a train accident when she was 43 years of old. However her dream saw fulfillment when the St Teresa College - Cochin started with a small batch of 41 students in 1925.


The Platinum Jubilee Complex of St Teresa College - Cochin "St. Teresa's Elysium" includes auditoriums, conference halls audio visual room, research consultation center and class rooms. The main auditorium has a seating capacity of 1500 and the mini-auditorium 700. The complex is fully equipped to meet the demands of 21st century.The basketball court in the Science Block and the volleyball court in the Arts Block are added attractions to the students. The St Teresa College - Cochin campus also has an audio-visual room, a health club, a computer centre, hostels with ample rooms and a Women's Study Centre, which aims at the empowerment of women.


The St Teresa College - Cochin office and the Principal's office occupy the ground floor of the main building. The St Teresa College - Cochin owns three buses for students. Water supply is available on all floors in both the blocks and power supply in all the rooms.Infrastructure development provides the backbone for the progressive growth and development of the St Teresa College - Cochin and has kept pace with academic growth.


The St Teresa College - Cochin library is the key resource of information for the academic community. It started functioning along with the college itself in 1925. First it was named 'Mother Veronica Library' dedicated to the fond memory of Mother Veronica, the superior General of the Congregation. The present Library was built to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the College in 1975. The formal inauguration of the Golden Jubilee Library was in 1981. At present there are 72,855 books and 195 periodicals.Special sections are maintained for Career guidance, Value education, Gandhian Studies and Kerala History. For convenience, department libraries for Science subjects are maintained in the Science Block. A general library wing is also functioning in the Science Block. Computer database and Internet facilities are available at the library.The Library is kept open from 8.45 a.m. to 5 p.m. on working days and Saturdays except Thursday afternoon.


The Teresian Computer Centre offers courses of varying duration to provide efficient training in Computer Software Engineering. Students can choose either the morning (7.30- 8.45 a.m.) or the evening slot (3.00- 4.45 p.m.). The courses offered by the Women's Study.In campus residence facilities are provided by the St Teresa College - Cochin. There are three main hostels, one in the main block and the other two in the Science Block. The atmosphere in these residence halls gives a feeling of 'home away from home'. The application to these hostels may be given on the day of the admission itself. The St Teresa College - Cochin also has a Sports hostel for student sportspersons.


The hostel inmates are accommodated in rooms. Each hostel room can accommodate 3-4 inmates. The special features of the hostel include a recreation room, a library, Internet facility and a snack bar. There is a special Mass at the beginning of each academic year. All major festivals are celebrated in the hostel with great fervour. An annual All-India tour is arranged for the inmates. Hostel Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm. The cordiality between the seniors and the juniors lay the foundation for a conducive and friendly atmosphere.The St Teresa College - Cochin has two canteens, one each in the Arts and Science Blocks. The canteens serve meals, snacks and soft drinks. Simple wholesome food prepared in hygienic surroundings is provided to the students at subsidized rates. The management provides means of livelihood to destitute women and orphans through the canteen.
