National Institute of Social Communications, Research and Training-NISCORTwas established in 1997 by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI). The Catholic Church in India began its involvement in the field of mass media in the mid-sixties. Before that, there have been prominent Catholics like Beschi, De Nobili, Amalorpavadas, Bulke, Guru Gyan Prakash and many others who took active interest in the various folk, cultural and literary forms of the country. The Church’s association with the international media bodies like UNDA and OCIC (SIGNIS) has helped it make some headway in the area of media skills and training. Several prominent Catholics have done research and obtained degrees in the cultural as well as in the electronic media. Today, there are over 150 communication or mass media centers run by the Catholic Church and these are deeply involved in the cultural as well as the electronic media. The vision is to serve as an effective communication think-tank and as a centre for advanced learning, training and research in matters related to the communication revolution, which is sweeping practically every aspect of the life of the people of India, and give to the mass media of the nation, a specific thrust, which will promote and uphold the cherished media values and morality. National Institute of Social Communications, Research and Training-NISCORT has a campus of its own, located on a plot of land at Vaishali, 16 kms. from the centre of New Delhi, on the border of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

It has been installed with softwares like Motion, Apple Shake, Logic Pro, Sound Track Pro and also Final Cut Pro. With these equipments students will be getting hands-on experience with Final Cut Pro for video editing. All the computers in the Computer Lab have been installed with Thin Client Network connected to one common server a double Xeon Dual Core server with high configuration, which helps all the systems. It also helps in boosting graphic works, which is not usually the case with other common network servers. The internet connectivity speed has increased to 2mbps which makes possible high speed internet browsing. All students have free broadband access to the Internet on all working days. Several computers have been placed at the disposal of the students and they use these facilities for their assignments, for browsing the Internet and even for their personal work.
