MIT Sloan School of Management – Cambridge began in 1914 as engineering administration curriculum in the MIT Department of Economics and Statistics. The scope and depth of this educational focus have grown steadily in response to advances in the theory and practice of management to today’s broad-based management school.
A program offering a master’s degree in management was established in 1925. The world’s first university-based executive education program the MIT Sloan School of Management – Cambridge fellows was created in 1931 under the sponsorship of Alfred P. Sloan, Jr., an 1895 MIT graduate who was then chairman of General Motors. A MIT Sloan Foundation grant established the MIT School of Industrial Management in 1952 with a charge of educating the “ideal manager.”

E62, the signature building of MIT Sloan School of Management – Cambridge and home of the Joan and William A. E62 has brought together all the MIT Sloan faculty in one building to enhance cross-discipline collaboration and research. It also bears the distinction of being the “greenest” building at MIT, showcasing sustainable features such as light-sensitive window shades, a green roof, and an irrigation system that minimizes water use by responding to changes in weather. Like the management school itself, E62 does not stand alone, but is connected on several levels to the other MIT Sloan School of Management – Cambridge structures around it. Sitting at the junction of academia, technology and business in Kendall Square and serving as the eastern gateway to MIT, E62 literally welcomes the world to campus.

The MIT Sloan School of Management – Cambridge community has access to the Institute's extensive library system, which includes five major libraries (including one focused on management and social sciences), five smaller specialized libraries, the Institute Archives, 2.6 million printed volumes, 17,000 journal subscriptions, a digital collection of MIT theses, 325 online databases, and more than 3800 electronic journal titles licensed for access on the MIT network. Also available is DSpace, a revolutionary digital repository created to preserve the intellectual output of MIT.
MIT Sloan School of Management – Cambridge athletic complex consists of ten buildings and 26 acres of playing fields. Facilities include the state-of-the-art Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center, the Johnson Athletic Center, Rockwell Cage, and the David Falett duPont Athletic Center. Outdoor facilities range from fields for softball, baseball, and track and field to 16 tennis courts. Seasonal facilities include the Sailing Pavilion, Pierce Boathouse, and Johnson Ice Arena. MIT Sloan School of Management – Cambridge Medical offers an extensive scope of services to keep the community healthy and to provide expert care for the sick. A large multi-specialty group practice with 24 full-time physicians, more than 50 part-time physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, psychologists, and other health professionals, MIT Medical brings together more than 40 services and offers workshops and support systems for health issues large and small.
